Summer Season at Cairngorm Mountain

May 30th, 2023.

Summer Season at Cairngorm Mountain.

Come and visit Cairngorm Mountain for an action-packed summer season, with new family-focused experiences, including upcoming mountain biking trails, guided walks, and the return of our popular mountain tubing.

Experience the mountain like never before

Guided Walks at Cairngorm Mountain

Until the end of October, visitors can enjoy our guided walks around the Cairngorms. Led by experienced guides, this is an unforgettable opportunity to explore the natural environment, including local plants and wildlife, and learn more about the mountain’s history.

Choose between a half-day walk around the Northern Corries’ wild landscape, or a 90-minute walk from the Top Station to Cairn Gorm summit, with spectacular views from 1,245m above sea level.

Get an adrenaline rush

Tubing Park at Cairngorm Mountain

The summer season means extra availability for our popular mountain tubing, perfect for children and adults alike. Located at the base ski area, each 30-minute session promises an exciting, high-speed experience with brilliant views over Loch Morlich and the Spey Valley.

The Spindrift and Cliffhanger slides offer an adrenaline-filled experience for visitors aged 4 and over, while children aged between 2 and 8 can try out the gentle Snowflake slope. Tickets are now on sale every weekend until late June, and then most days during the summer holidays. With something for the whole family, mountain tubing is not to be missed!

Kick your trip into high gear

Mountain Biking Park at Cairngorm Mountain

Later this summer season, we’ll also be launching a new mountain biking experience for families and children. With beginner and intermediate trails, easily reached by our ‘magic carpet’ conveyor belts, as well as on-site bike hire and storage, mountain biking is a must-do activity this summer. Stay tuned for more updates!

Take your trip to the next level

Mountain Railway and Experience

Earlier this year, we reinstated Cairngorm Mountain’s iconic funicular railway, taking customers on the 2km stretch to the Top Station in around five minutes, where our unique visitor experience at the Ptarmigan building awaits them.

Our viewing terrace is the perfect place to take in the breathtaking views of the area. From the top, when the weather is clear you can see down to Loch Morlich and the ancient pine forests surrounding the loch. No matter the weather, you can still experience the magic of the Cairngorms in our 270-degree immersive exhibition. It brings a real sense of the stunning landscape in which the mountain is set and increases understanding of the unique Cairngorms plateau.

And there’s lots for youngsters to do here too. In the Cairngorm Learning Zone, children can become geologists for the day with our interactive 3D sandboxes. Using augmented reality technology, visitors can design their own natural environment by shaping the landscape and changing sea levels, while observing the impact of different natural phenomena, such as ice ages and volcanoes.

Fuel up for an action-packed summer

The Ptarmigan Restaurant and Bar

While you’re keeping busy this summer, don’t forget to refuel at the Ptarmigan restaurant. Our hot breakfast rolls are perfect for a hearty breakfast while our lunch options will give you all the energy you need. But, if you’re looking for something a little more deluxe, our warming main courses are the perfect choice. We recommend our local venison chilli or the nourishing Thai red vegetable curry. Of course, we haven’t forgotten the bairns; our kids menu is a great option for our wee visitors who have been trying their hand at our different activities.

After a great day on Cairn Gorm, we’d love to welcome you back into our brand new Ptarmigan gin bar. With panoramic views, it’s a stunning venue for those cool summer evenings.

Shop at the Top

The Shop at the Top at Cairngorm Mountain

The Shop at the Top Station is a great way to take a piece of Cairngorm Mountain home with you. Our wide range of boutique gifts, clothing and local products make great gifts and they also support the community of artisan creators who live in the local area and beyond. We have small-batch distilled gin, the Cairngorm Reindeer Gin, luxury candles from Isle of Sky Candle Co., and a selection of books and artwork showcasing the local area.

Plan Your Trip

To experience the Mountain Railway tickets can be purchased online for Fridays – Mondays inclusive. You can also purchase tickets for all days of the week directly from the Ticket Office at Cairngorm Mountain. We also offer loyalty passes for repeat visitors to use the funicular railway for unlimited trips until 30 November.

Due to the ongoing protection of the plateau and to comply with our Visitor Management Plan, only assistance dogs can travel up on the mountain railway.
