The Ptarmigan Restaurant on Cairngorm Mountain may at times be operating with a reduced menu meaning no hot food will be available due to temporary kitchen closures.
This follows the detection of radon during a routine inspection in an enclosed area within the kitchen. Radon is a naturally occurring gas from rocks such as granite, which can enter buildings from the ground and accumulate in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas. The risk from radon is associated with long-term exposure, and this is a precautionary measure to ensure the continued safety of our staff and visitors.
We are working closely with a Radon Protection Advisor to carry out further testing and any necessary remedial actions.
In the meantime, our Ptarmigan café area remains open, serving teas and coffees, sandwiches, cakes. A wider menu, including hot food, is also available at the Cairngorm Café at the Base Station.
We will provide further updates as the situation progresses.
Thank you for your understanding.
