The Ptarmigan Restaurant on Cairngorm Mountain will be operating with a reduced menu until Friday 24 April, as our main kitchen is currently closed.
This follows the detection of radon during a routine inspection in an enclosed area within the kitchen. Radon is a naturally occurring gas from rocks such as granite, which can enter buildings from the ground and accumulate in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas. The risk from radon is associated with long-term exposure, and this is a precautionary measure to ensure the continued safety of our staff and visitors.
We are working closely with a Radon Protection Advisor to carry out further testing and any necessary remedial actions.
In the meantime, our Ptarmigan café area remains open, serving teas and coffees, sandwiches, cakes, and soup. A wider menu, including hot food, is also available at the Cairngorm Café at the Base Station.
We will provide further updates and confirm when full kitchen service resumes once we are satisfied the issue has been fully resolved.
Mountain Railway will tickets will be offered at a 25% discount during this period due to the reduced offering at the Top Station.
Thank you for your understanding.
