Cairngorm Mountain Is Open For Snowsports

November 20th, 2025.

The snowsports season has officially kicked off!

The news we’ve all been waiting for – the snow has arrived at Cairngorm Mountain! We’re excited and delighted to announce that we’ll be opening for limited snowsports this weekend.

From Friday 21 to Sunday 23 November, we’ll be able to offer a marked run from the Ptarmigan Top Station down to the Middle Station via the Traverse, 105 and Zig Zags. Uplift to the top will be via the Funicular railway only.

Up at the top, we’ll be running the mighty Polar Express Poma throughout the weekend but remember this is a short, beginner tow and will not enable full access to the upper slopes. There is still insufficient snow to open the lower slopes but our teams are closely monitoring this.

We’ll be introducing a reduced-rate Snowsports Day Pass for opening weekend (£27 for Adults and £17 for Juniors). There will be 100 passes available which must be booked online, as there will be no walk-in capacity available at the Ticket Office – book passes here. Please note, we will not have Equipment Rental available for this weekend.

Mike Gifford, Chief Executive of Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited is delighted that the winter has officially kicked off: “The team have been working very hard over the last few days to move snow around and we are delighted to be offering snowsports from the funicular this early in the season. We hope this is the start of a positive winter at Cairngorm Mountain.”

“The team have been working very hard over the last few days to move snow around and we are delighted to be offering snowsports from the funicular this early in the season.”

Season Pass holders, as always, can head straight to the slopes. And if you haven’t bought your Season Pass yet, now’s as good a time as any – our ‘Early Bird’ offer runs until Sunday 30 November.

With snowsports available, Mountain Railway foot passengers are no longer restricted to the viewing terraces at the Ptarmigan Station – visitors are welcome to go outside to see the snow but must not leave the ski patrol boundary. The conditions of our Visitor Management Plan do still apply therefor mountaineers and snowsports tourers cannot use the Mountain Railway for access to the plateau.

“With the snowsports season commencing, our discounted November funicular offer will now end. Any reduced-rate tickets already booked will, of course, be honoured.”

As previously announced, the start of snowsports operations means our discounted November funicular offer has now ended. Visitors can still enjoy the Mountain Railway over the weekend, but please be aware we expect to be busier than normal due to snowsports customers accessing uplift – bookings are now live right up to the end of December.

Any reduced-rate funicular tickets already booked will, of course, be honoured for their chosen date.

We can’t wait to welcome you back onto the slopes this weekend!
