Discover Cairngorm Mountain Walking Trails
Located just a short distance from Aviemore in the heart of the national park, Cairn Gorm is one of the most accessible mountains in the country. The Coire Cas car park is located at 635m above sea level and is one of the main points of access into the greater Cairngorms massif. During winter, many of these routes are affected by snow, ice and winter snowsports operations. Additionally, all waymarking for the walking trails within the ski area are removed for the winter season.

Ranger Guided Walks
The Lower Cas Loop
Starting from the Day Lodge, the Lower Cas Loop leads up the right hand side of the Funicular railway towards to the middle of the mountain and is perfect for a gentle family walk near Aviemore.
Approximately 1.5 kilometres in length, this pleasant trail weaves through the lower slopes and up a gentle gradient alongside the lower ski slopes up the middle station and Sheiling building, returning via the Homeroad to the Day Lodge.
The Windy Ridge Climb
Setting off from the main car park, the Windy Ridge climb leads up the left hand side of Coire Cas onto the upper mountain. Whilst suitable for most abilities, this is a steeper alternative route.
Climbing up Cairn Gorm via the windy ridge you will experience breathtaking views across Loch Morlich, Glenmore Forest Park and through the stunning Ryvoan Pass to Abernethy.
The Summit Path
Climbing to the summit of Cairn Gorm, Britain’s 6th highest mountain, should be on everyones bucket list. The summit path is accessible from both the windy ridge climb and following beyond the lower Cas loop into the upper mountain trail.
At the summit you will experience breathtaking views across the Cairngorm plateau towards Ben Macdui. On a clear day you can see as far north as Ben Wyvis and the mountain ranges above Ullapool.
Beyond the Ski Area
Beyond the ski area there are many walking trails leading into the Cairngorms. If you are planning to go out exploring it is essential that you go suitably prepared.
