For a rush of excitement, hop into a gravity-fuelled mountain cart and roll your way down the slopes. Suitable for ages 14+, this activity is a must do for visitors to Aviemore and the Cairngorms. Set your own pace for a thrilling ride down the mountainside alongside your adventure buddies. The cool October air makes the descent even more refreshing as you twist and turn down our purpose-built tracks.
Sessions are £30 per person if booked in advance but spaces fill up fast so make sure and lock in your slot to be part of this awesome experience. Make sure and wrap up warm if you are participating as it can be very cold at the Top Station at this time of year.
A unique attraction in the Cairngorms National Park, the funicular railway whisks you up the mountain from 635m to 1097m above sea level in just 8 minutes. At the top, panoramic views stretch across Glenmore and Rothiemurchus, showcasing a spectacular autumn landscape. It’s a great option for those who prefer to take in the scenery without the uphill hike or enjoy a delicious lunch or hot drink in the UK’s Highest Restaurant – The Ptarmigan.
On top of the views and tasty food, there’s also the Shop @ the Top, Interactive Sandbox play area, and Immersive ‘Cairngorm Story’ film show – lots to keep the whole family entertained!
Families and groups will love our Tubing Slides, where specially designed slides send you speeding downhill on inflatable rings. It’s all the fun of sledging, without the need for snow. The laughter, speed, and thrill make it a firm October favourite for kids and adults alike.
Sessions for £15 per person for 30 fun-filled minutes. Booking onto a Tubing Slide session also gets you access into the Adventure Play Park for the rest of the day.
If you’d rather take in the mountain environment on foot, guided walks to the summit of Cairn Gorm are available throughout the month. Led by our experienced walk guides, they will share fascinating knowledge about the landscape, wildlife, and history as you make the gradual climb from the Top Station up to the summit. On a clear autumn day, the reward is breathtaking views stretching across the Cairngorm Plateau – not to mention standing on the summit of the UK’s 6th highest mountain.
Walks run twice a day, Thursday to Sunday until the end of the month. They are £35 per person and suitable for ages 6+.
Little explorers can burn off energy at the Adventure Play Park. With the CAIRNGORM climbing features, Winch Cat zip lines, ‘wee’ Snowflake Tubing Slide, and of course our popular Jumping Pillow, it’s the perfect spot for children to run wild while parents relax and soak in the mountain views.
Access to the Adventure Play Park is just £5 per child for the full day. It is suitable for toddlers, right up to teenagers (16 yrs & under) and the rest of the family can come along to supervise for no extra cost. On your first visit, you will also get a wooden ball for playing with the Adventure Ball Runs located around the base of the resort.
After braving the chill of October, nothing beats wrapping your hands around a steaming mug of hot chocolate. Located in the Day Lodge at the base of the Mountain Railway, the Cairngorm Café serves up delicious drinks, tasty tray-bakes, soup, sandwiches and a pizza – ideal for a well-earned pause between adventures.
For cyclists, October at the resort is where adventure meets altitude. Whether you’re looking to enjoy some more advanced riding , or just keen to get your first taste of some downhill thrills, the trails here cater to all abilities. With uplift available via the Funicular to the middle station you can fit in those extra laps without the challenge of climbing back up.
For families, or those planning a mellower day, our Pedal Pass gets you access to the Magic Carpet conveyors to ride the lower zone with the option to tackle the cycle up if you fancy it. We also have on-site Bike Rental with a fleet ranging from balance bikes for wee ones to full-suspension e-Bikes for a battery powered shred.
Plan your October escape to Cairngorm Mountain and discover a blend of outdoor adventure and cosy comfort. Whether you’re carting, mountain biking, or simply sipping hot chocolate, this Highland destination is guaranteed to make autumn memorable.
