The future plans for Cairngorm Mountain have moved a step closer following the submission of planning applications for an artificial ski slope and developments to the Ptarmigan building.. The ambition is to create a world class, year round mountain destination by sympathetically enhancing the overall visitor experience, broadening the appeal and solving a number of existing challenges faced throughout the year. Operating within an iconic setting in the heart of one of the world’s most stunning National Parks is not lost on the team. We want to create an offering that matches the setting and increases the long term economic benefit to the local communities in the Badenoch and Strathspey area.
The team have taken time to understand the current challenges faced by visitors and the onsite operations which form the basis of the thinking for the proposed plans. These include having heavily weather dependent offering in buildings that are currently unfit for purpose. The sense of arrival and amount of education and interpretation does not match the unique location. Also the connection to the local community can be increased through communication and transport links and finally the appeal of the offering should be broadened and take into account families and beginners at all times in the year.
