Walking at CairnGorm Mountain

Fresh mountain air, fantastic montane scenery, the best weather watching site in the UK - walking is good for the soul.......
At CairnGorm Mountain we have a range of self guided trails or Ranger - guided walks to keep you fit, active and engaged in this mountain environment. You do not need any previous mountain walking experience to participate in any of the walks, more important is
an enjoyment of walking and suitable clothing a footwear.

Am I fit enough? If you enjoy walking and are comfortable walking for 2-3 hours around the shops you should be fine.

What should I wear?
You need to prepare for mountain weather - even in summer. Layers of clothing including an outer water proof layer is essential. Bring a rucksack with hat , gloves, a water bottle and snack (pic nic
lunch if the day is a full day walk). Walking boots with ankle support is appropriate footwear - wellies, sandals and gym shoes are not.

Walk and Ride - Visitors can experience the peace and fresh air of the mountain landscape and combine this with a ride on the railway by considering a Walk and Ride. Use the self guided footpath network to walk up through the ski area on a range of clearly marked trails that take you past the mountain garden and the new camera obscura, continue to the Summit  or enter the Ptarmigan Top Station for a well earned break before returning back to the car park on the funicular railway. Allow 90 mins for your walk to the Top Station (another 30 mins if you plan to go on to the summit) and this is a great 3 -4 hour fulfilling day. Don't foget you will need suitable footwear and clothing. You can also do this programme in the company of a guide (see our guided walks section).

Take a leisurely stroll around the ski area, the Mountain Garden (the highest in the UK) or capture your first Munro on a summit walk to the top of Cairn Gorm Mountain. The weekly walking events programme begins in May and goes through to the end of September. For full details of the walks go to the events calendar and you can see what's on week by week.

Look out for the seasonal specials like "GPS Treasure Hunting" - a mountain treasure hunt suitable for all the family making use of a Global Positioning System, the Alt Mhor Trai (a sheltered, downhill walks through the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest to Glenmore). Many more seasonal walks are listed on the events calendar.

Ranger Guided Walks should be prebooked by calling 01479 861341 during office hours,
