Snow showers giving blizzard conditions. Cloud persistent throughout with rapidly changing visibility. Temp -1C at 900m. Saturday 6th Feb: Wind SE 25mph gusting 40mph. Snow will fall now and again.  Persistent cloud between 400-700m. Temp -2C at 900m. Outlook: Turning colder again by middle of next week with more snow fall especially in the East. LIFTS & RUNSGreat conditions all over the mountain with more  top ups of snow keeping everything fresh. Superb skiing everywhere and we will open all lifts weather and wind permitting. With every fresh snowfall we have to dig out the train track and we thank customers in advance for their patience and understanding in getting the train operational each day. Opening timesFirstfunicular 9am but other surface uplift will usually operate from half an hour earlier. Survival tips here. http://www.cairngormmountain.co.uk/snow-sports-at-cairngorm-mountain/survival-tips-for-half-term Olympic Torch Light Descents Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th Feb 2010 To mark the February half term break and the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler, Canada, CairnGormMountain invite the public to take part in and / or watch “Olympic Flame Descents” on Monday 15th and again on Wednesday 17th February To take part in one of these descents you are required to be a competent skier or snowboarder of intermediate/ advanced standard (able to ski confidently from the top to the bottom of the mountain). Children wishing to take part should be aged 8- 16 years and need to be accompanied by a participating adult. Spaces are limited for both events. Participants will take the funicular railway to the top station from 4.30pm, where they will be given a hot drink and a beef roll. At dusk (which we expect to be around 5.30pm), 40cm light torches will be issued to every participant by ski patrol (flashing whistles are also available for a small charge). The CairnGorm ‘Olympic’ Flame will be carried by ski patrol who will lead and guide the descent.You can book from Saturday 6th February by going to the ticket office in the Base Station between 1pm and 4pm. (Please note that telephone bookings cannot be accepted for this event as we require participants to complete a disclaimer). PRICESAdult   £15 (one child free for every full paying adult).             Additional Child £5Please note that day tickets and season tickets are not valid for this event and no hire will be available. Spectators are welcome to watch the Descent from car park level where the Cas Bar will remain open until 7.30pm serving, hot drinks, home baking and light snacks. Weather permitting we will also open a sledge area on the lower slopes (sledge hire £5 per half hour) and there will also be an opportunity to take part in Skidoo and Piste Machine rides (£5 donation – for race timing and display boards).  Car ParkingPlease try and car share or use the public bus service from Aviemore.  Shuttle bus services will run from the Ciste car park when Coire Cas car parks are full. It is possible to ski back to the Coire na Ciste car park from the top of the Day Lodge Poma. (Turn left and follow the marked route). This run is suitable for intermediate and expert skiers only. Bus Service – Please note that the last bus down the mountain to Aviemore leaves at 4.40pm. Buying ticketsYou can buy skiing tickets (but not ski hire) on-line on our website. You can also buy our great value 4 Day Skiing Tickets Vouchers on-line (£96 for adults and £58 for a child). Vouchers can be used any day this skiing season but only one voucher per day may be used. These on-line purchases need to be presented at the ranger base office on arrival and exchanged for a ticket for the day. A cash only desk for day ski tickets (no hire and no 2-day tickets) will operate from the window in the side of the day lodge so visit a cash machine before you come on site for fast ticket purchase. Ski tickets can also be purchased from Aviemore Ski and Snowboard Hire (Myrtlefield Shopping Centre, Grampian Road, Aviemore) – Located below the post office opposite the Winking Owl. Equipment hireYou can hire here all the equipment you need including jackets and trousers but not goggles, gloves or hats – these can be purchased in our shops. Hire is particularly busy over half term and we often run out of small sized equipment. To avoid disappointment we advise customers to hire before they come up to the mountain. Buy a funicular only ticket to access this then purchase a sledging ticket in the shop at the top to hire your sledge and book your half hour slot. Only our sledges can be used in the sledge park. Please check at the ticket office that the park is open before purchasing your funicular ticket. FOOD & DRINK & SHOPPINGThe Cas Bar and Mountain Shop in the Day Lodge will be open at 9.00amThe Cas Bar is now a public WiFi access zone. So get connected in comfort there. In order to minimize queues please try to avoid peak times for lunch in the Ptarmigan.
