Skiing Outlook for CairnGorm Mountain

Weekend Commencing Friday 23rd January 2009

The Cairngorm Husky Races will be taking place this weekend with racing at Glenmore. Start / Finish area is at the Hayfield at Glenmore gates.  Great spectator opportunities but please drive carefully on the road as it will be busy.

SKIING & SNOWSPORTS

Things are looking up for the weekend. This week heavy snow showers combined with winds have steadily improved the conditions of all runs. Skiing from top to bottom. Lifts expected to open are: Coire na Ciste, Ptarmigan T Bar, Polar Express, M1 poma, Coire Cas T Bar and the funicular railway. West wall poma is being looked at but is heavily scoured in places. The White Lady is great skiing and catching snow all the time. The Cas and the Gun barrel are also fun. Snow conditions are consolidating well with the fluctuations in temperature. Grooming team working steadily to move the snowpack and maximise runs available.

NON SKIING VISITORS

The sledge park will open if conditions make it safe to do so. Tickets can be purchased from the Shop at the Top – but you will need to purchase a train ticket and check first that the sledge park is open. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing and remain close to the Top Station.

WEATHER OUTLOOK

Friday 23rd January 09: Wind SW or W 25-40mph. Stronger speeds likely in the afternoon. Occasional snow showers. Cloud most extensive on more western hills above 800m. Patches of sun especially on eastern hills but visibility poor in snow showers. Temp at 900m -1C or -2C.

Saturday 24th January 09: Wind W 25-35mph. Snow showers may reach western hills but less likely in the East. Cloud base mostly above 1000m. Bright sunshine likely in the eastern hills and visibility mostly excellent. Temp at 900m -2C.
