The snow cover on the mountain is consolidating and more snow is forecast....We are Ski-ing...Find out more.

What’s on w/c Fri 12 Dec 08 at CairnGorm Mountain

WE ARE SKI-ING

The snow cover on most of the mountain is beginning to consolidate with freeze/thaw conditions firming it up. With more snow forecast, more of the mountain should open up for ski-ing in the course of next week.

FRIDAY

Lifts

We expect to open the Funicular along with the M1 Poma, the Ciste Tow and the Polar Express Tow.

Opening times

First train up will be 10.00am. Last train up will be 3.20pm and last train down 4pm.

Runs

We will be offering runs down the Ciste Fairway, the TraverseUpper Cas, 105, Zig Zags and funicular middle station stops. The Ciste Fairway is getting thin in places with rocks exposed. Some fresh snow on a hard packed base has created good ski-ing and boarding on the top Traverse. The first part of the Zig Zags still has some good snow but is starting to wear thin thereafter. The Upper Cas again has some fresh snow on a hard base but this is getting thin in places with some exposed rocks. Conditions are a bit hard in places.

Tickets

We will be charging £15 for a day ticket for ski-ing on this limited area.

Weather

It is going to be windy with southerlies of 35-45mph gusting to 65-85mph combining with temperatures of -2 to create severe windchill.  Cloud between 800 and 1000m with glimpses of sunshine and visibility becoming poorer in patchy snow.

SATURDAY

Lifts

In addition to the Funicular, M1 Poma and Ciste Tow we may also open the Cas Tow and Ptarmigan Tow and possibly the West Wall Poma from the bottom of the Ciste Tow, depending on how much new snow we get.

Runs

As for Friday above with the addition of the top of the M1 down to the Crossover on the Cas – this has drifted snow, is unpisted and rocky in places but good for experts.

Opening times

First train up 9.00am. Last train up 3.20pm, last train down 4.00pm

Tickets

If the above lifts open, normal full day ticket prices will apply.

Weather

Increasingly windy 40-60mph with gusts of 70-90mph and heavy snowfall and cloud giving very poor visibility and potentially whiteout conditions.

SUNDAY and next week

Low cloud, strong winds, rain and patchy snow are forecast, continuing into next week. We will attempt to open some ski-ing uplift each day, conditions permitting.

Sunday opening times as for Saturday above. Weekday opening times as for Friday above.

SKI HIRE

When ski-ing takes place, ski hire will be open for business.

TERRAIN PARK

More work needs to be done on the terrain park before it can open.

SLEDGING

We hope to open the sledge park at the weekend. Please check at the ticket office that the park is open before buying your funicular ticket. Only CairnGorm Mountain sledges can be used in the sledge park and these can be hired at £5 per half hour in the Shop at the Top.

FOOD & DRINK & SHOPS

The Cas Bar will be open weekdays 9.30am to 4.00pm and weekends 8.45am to 4.00pm.

In the Ptarmigan, hot drinks and breakfast rolls will be available from the arrival of the first train and lunches will be available there daily from 11.30am to 3.15pm. Both the Mountain Shop and the Shop at the Top will also be open.

CHRISTMAS

Please note that we will also be closed on Christmas Day but will be open on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, Hogmanay and New Year's Day.

TERRAIN PARK CREW VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Working in conjunction with Vans - our terrain park sponsors - CairnGorm is still looking to recruit more volunteers who will work with ski patrol on a regular basis to help maintain the terrain park. Considerable effort and time is dedicated to building and maintaining features and if the Park is to continue to flourish and be open on a more regular basis then more volunteers are required to help with the work. If you are a keen snowboarder or freestyle skier and interested in volunteering some of your time to build on the success of the Park, visit the web site and see if Terrain Park Crew is for you. Details available through the following link: http://www.cairngormmountain.org.uk/recruitment

OPENING TIMES AND GENERAL INFORMATION FOR NON-SKIERS

CairnGorm Mountain will be open daily.  Opening hours will depend on whether we have a ski-ing operation or not. Please call or visit the web site for up to date information.
