CairnGorm Mountain Ltd is delighted to announce the key appointment of Mr Ian Whitaker (Grantown on Spey)) as Interim Chief Executive of the CairnGorm Mountain Ltd. Mr Whitaker will take up his post from Friday 28th November 2008, following the departure of Bob Kinnaird.

INTERIM CHIEF EXECUTIVE APPOINTED AT CAIRNGORM MOUNTAIN 

CairnGorm Mountain Ltd is delighted to announce the key appointment of Mr Ian Whitaker (Grantown on Spey)) as Interim Chief Executive of the CairnGorm Mountain Ltd. Mr Whitaker will take up his post from Friday 28th November 2008, following the departure of Bob Kinnaird.

 Ian Whitaker joined the CairnGorm Mountain team as Commercial Director when the funicular railway opened in 2001. In his seven years with the Company Ian has earned a reputation as a strong innovator and under his guidance, CairnGorm Mountain has entered new markets, developed an enviable reputation for private events and fine dining in the Ptarmigan Restaurant which itself has resulted in improvements in all service levels at CairnGorm Mountain. Ian comes with considerable operational experience gained both at CairnGorm Mountain and in his previous roles as Deputy General Manager of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and a member of the operational launch team at Dynamic Earth (Edinburgh) – Scotland’s first Millennium Project. 

Company Chairman, Grenville Johnston says: “Now that the Company is owned by HIE it is appropriate for us to advertise formally for a Chief Executive. This will happen shortly. I am pleased that Ian has agreed to take on this present demanding role as Interim Chief Executive to progress the company through our winter season. We are hoping for a prolonged and good skiing season. We will be discussing with HIE the longer term plans for the future of the company and we are very grateful to HIE for their clear commitment to the future of skiing at Cairngorm.” 

Ian Whitaker says: “The success of CairnGorm Mountain as an environmentally sustainable, successful , year round, tourism attraction within the Cairngorm National Park will play a key role in the future prosperity of the area. Whilst I am not underestimating the challenge and responsibility, I look forward to making my contribution, and working with others who share this vision”.

 Ian Whitaker began his career as a Hospitality Management Trainee at Lloyds of London. From this early time Ian has consistently developed his operational skills and career path with outstanding quality performers in the tourism and hospitality industry including; The Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre (London), Spencer House, St James’s Place (London) and Deputy General Manager at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (Edinburgh). His drive for quality makes him an ideal Chairman of “The Right Direction” – a business promoting excellence in hospitality businesses throughout the Highlands of Scotland.
